Web browser annoyance

One feature of the new Mozilla based browser is spacial scrolling. This is where you press the hardware up and down keys and the browser focus jumps to the next/previous link on the page.

I can see a use for this but on pages where links are far apart from each other, say the top and bottom, the 'scroll' actually misses out the whole of the page. This can become annoying if you are using the hardware keys for one handed scrolling.

If, like me you want to turn this feature off there is an option within the browser to do so.

Open a browser window and type about:config into the address bar. In the set preference name box type snav.enabled and in the value box type false. Scrolling should now be more 'predictable'.

Very cool!

If you just hold down the up or down button, it will scroll the page rather than skipping to the next link.

The page up/down patch for the browser is wonderful.

Has anyone done something similar for the os2008 pdf reader?

about:config doesn't work

This would be a wonderful thing to have. I think it is stupid to have the browser react as it does to the up/down keys. HOWEVER, when I enter about:config into the browser, my browser just freezes and nothing happens. Any suggestions?

Sadly that seems to be normal :(
However, if you wait long enough (I got through half a game of Mahjong :P) it'll eventually finish whatever the heck it's doing and work again, and you can change the setting.
Not a big fan of MicroB ATM. It's Mozilla memory-hog roots really show... I miss Opera :(

Thanks Jamie, that is a big help. I see we can maybe change the default font size too, can you direct me how to make it default to 12 instead of 10.. Thanks

I actually use the "skip to next link" feature a lot. It was a pretty great idea to be able to scroll (by holding down the key) -and- use links with one hand without the stylus. Sadly, this feature in the new Mozilla-based browser is pretty broken compared to the old Opera. I'm not surprised you want to turn it off.

That's great ! Now, if someone can tell me how to stop it from making the clicking sound (aside from turning the volume down) ?
